| Sorux Directory Help - How to Search |
The Sorux Directory contains editor-reviewed Web sites organized into subject categories. Use the Directory when you are interested in a certain subject but don't know exactly what you're looking for, or when you want to see top-quality sites for a subject.
Browsing the
directory
When you select a category link, Sorux shows you the following:
A "breadcrumb" search thread (Home > Category > Subcategory). This shows you where you are in your browse process and lets you return to higher-level categories.
A list of subcategories. You can click these categories to explore deeper into your subject.
A list of Web sites for the current category. Human editors have chosen these as the best in the Web for each specific category.
Searching the directory
Click on a given category and type a query into the Directory search box. By default, you will search only in the category you selected. You can click the drop-dowr in the search box to search the "Entire Directory."
Directory search tips
To require multiple words, use ANY WORDS.
To require a phrase, ALL WORDS.
To exclude a word, use NOT (Example: dogs NOT cats).
Basic
Web search tips
Sorux invites you
to search its digital content collection containing billions of Web pages, data
resources by simply typing a query and clicking the Search button.
When you type multiple words in the search box, Sorux looks for Web pages that contain all of the words.
Be as specific as you can. (Example: Baltimore Ravens instead of just Ravens)
Enter words that you think will appear on the Web page you want. Sorux indexes all of the words on each Web page.
To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotes (Example: "to be or not to be").
Uppercase and lowercase are treated the same. To maintain a certain capitalization, put the word in quotes.
Words with punctuation between
them are treated as if they are surrounded in quotes. All punctuation marks
are treated equally.
(Example: Ford.mustang/convertible gives the same results as "ford
mustang convertible".)
If you include an accent in a query word, Sorux only matches words with that particular accent. If you do not include an accent, Sorux will match words both with and without accents. This means you can search for French, German or Spanish words, even if you have an English-only keyboard.
To help
focus your search further, use
Advanced Web Search
or

search terms.
